About The Foraging Walks

You will get an introduction to the basics of foraging, including safety, legality and sustainability.

The walks usually consists of a light stroll, lasting approximately two hours and examining some of the plants and/or fungi we come across.

We will talk about methods of identification, edibility and other uses as well as some of the poisonous species to be aware of.

I take quite a relaxed and informal approach on my walks and am always excited to share my passion!

With the unpredictable British weather, it is important to be prepared, make sure you have suitable walking shoes/boots and waterproof clothing.

It’s a good idea to bring a camera and/or notepad and pen.

Bring a drink and snacks if you need them.

You are welcome to bring a basket or container if you are interested in taking a few specimens home to study.

There are always lot’s of interesting wild foods to find; Depending on the season, we will come across various edible plants, berries, nuts etc.

Fungi on the other hand, are rather less predictable, and while we will almost always find something interesting, there are no guarantees.
That’s part of the magic and mystery of Mushroom hunting, sometimes I can fill a basket with choice edibles on a twenty minute stroll and other times walk for hours only to return home empty handed!

“Liza brilliantly blends philosophy, ecology and botany in an information-rich walk along a winding river and through wild meadows. Green shrubs and weeds reveal themselves to be tasty ingredients for soups, teas and spices, folk medicinal remedies, as well as poisons to be avoided. Liza’s homemade foraged refreshments showcase the versatility and deliciousness of wild foods. Definitely an experience not to be missed!”

“We had a great introduction into the world of foraging from Liza today. She is really knowledgeable and well informed and conveys information in a gregarious, fun and accessible way. It certainly has opened my eyes up to the wild food that surrounds us and is ripe for the plucking. Definitely recommend everyone takes a couple of hours out and goes on a guided walk with her.”
Iain.

“I really enjoyed my walk with liza, she is very knowledgeable about the subject and the food she prepared from foraged plants was absolutely fantastic.

I would not hesitate in recommending her foraging walks.”
Gary.

“We went out early this morning with our dogs as usual, but looked at the flora differently after our day out with Liza yesterday. Our beautiful west country’s hedgerows are full to the brim with natural edibles – so knowing how to identify them is a wonderful bushcraft skill to learn. We can’t wait for the autumn! We are inspired and want to learn more.”

“We had a super morning with Liza – very informative and enjoyable for the whole family. To finish with snacks showcasing how to use foraged plants was wonderful, inspiring – and delicious! Gobbled up enthusiastically by two hungry 9-year-olds! Thoroughly recommended!”
